November: cold and windy, and hands all over campus were chilled. Something had to be done. We decided to unleash the power of knitting.
Thus the birth of Knit-A-Mitt, a workshop for anyone interested in learning to knit while relaxing on the sofas of Starbucks with wool in one hand, hot chocolate in the other.
By 8pm, the room was filled with the clicking of needles and exclamations of pleased knitters. With 45 students (male and female), most of whom had never tried knitting before, we went through the basics of casting on and the knit stitch. Although no one went home with a complete pair of mittens (possibly a little ambitious), most managed a small piece of knitting. If only a fashion for nosewarmers would catch on…
